Staff Spotlight: Michelle Sartori - first grade teacher at Everett Elementary School

Every week, we’ll shine a spotlight on one Lincoln Public Schools staff member! Get to know the wonderful people making a positive impact across various areas within LPS. This week, meet Michelle Sartori, first grade teacher at Everett Elementary School.

“Mrs. Sartori is always cheerful and positive and builds great relationships with students. She has high expectations for all students and they rise to the challenge. She takes a personal interest in all students and has developed a culture of cooperation and respect. Students are motivated to do their best in her classroom. In a few sentences, briefly describe your role at LPS.
I am a first grade teacher at Everett Elementary. I have been lucky enough to be teaching here for nine years.

How long have you worked for LPS?
I am in my 15th year with LPS. I began my career as a first grade teacher at Humann Elementary School. I was fortunate enough to be able to stay home with my children and returned to LPS nine years ago.

What inspired you to become part of the education field at LPS?
I have always desired to positively impact the lives of children.

What has been your favorite part of working here? What aspect of your job do you find most rewarding?
My favorite part of working at Everett Elementary School is the welcoming environment. I love getting the opportunity to work with a diverse group of students and staff who help me learn and grow every day.

Did you attend LPS as a student? If so, which school(s)? If not, where are you from?
I did not. I am from Omaha. 

What path did you take after completing your formal education?
I graduated from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. My first teaching job was at Humann Elementary School. 

What do you enjoy most about the Lincoln community?
Lincoln is a wonderful place to live and raise a family. It is a welcoming town to all. The city is growing and I love the improvements. We are big Husker fans so Lincoln is the perfect place to be.

What is your favorite childhood book or a book that has influenced your life positively?
“Tacky the Penguin” is one of my favorite books. It has an "odd" bird as the main character who everyone grows to love despite his being a little bit different from everyone else.

Share a shout out to a former teacher who impacted your life.
A teacher who impacted my life is Randy Langdon. He was my fifth grade teacher at Harvey Oaks Elementary School. He always found a way to make learning fun and engaging. He took the time to get to know each student and found a way to motivate each one of us. He inspired me to become an educator.
